LAHORE:

Slum evictions in Islamabad are further proof that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz  government’s policies are slated against the poor, Progressive Youth Front (PYF) leader Ahsan Bhatti said at a protest demonstration in front of the Lahore Press Club on Sunday.

The demonstration was organised by the Democratic Students Alliance and several members of the PYF and the Awami Workers Party attended it. The condemned the eviction of residents of the I-11 katchi abadi and demanded resettlement.

The protesters shouted slogans against the government and said it must form a plan to resettle those evicted. They also demanded an FIR against officials who killed an infant during the demolition and pressed for the release of an AWP activist, Hassan Turi, who was arrested on July 30, for resisting the demolition.

Ramis Sohail of the Democratic Students Alliance said the administration turns a blind eye to security threats in affluent areas but terrorises citizens in impoverished areas in the name of security.

Noman Ahmed | 8 years ago | Reply Hi, PYF has now limited their politics to such minor issues. Ohh poor people, I think they don't know the ground reality. First these people are illegally holding the land & they are main source of crime and drug. I paid for a plot to build house still waiting to get my land vacated. PYF do some favor for us also. Why don't you do protest in our favor & push government to find solution for us.
