Elections: Officials called to court

KARACHI: The Arts Council’s honorary secretary, election commissioner 2011 and joint stock companies registrar have been called to court over an alleged unfair elections case. Senior Civil Judge South Iqbal Hussain Metlo ordered them on Tuesday to appear on December 24.

The court heard counsel for plaintiff, Qari Sadaqat Ali, a member and presidential candidate. He maintained that the election process seemed unfair because of an alleged ‘collaboration’ between the honorary secretary and the election commissioner. The commissioner, despite repeated requests, did not provide the presidential candidates with a complete list of voters. The candidates, who are contesting elections against the panel of the honorary secretary, are facing difficulties due to the incomplete voter list while the secretary’s panel is going to have an advantage over the others because they have access to the complete list.
