MULTAN:

Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Managing Director Waseem Bajwa said on Thursday that 201 kilometres of the sewerage line in Multan should be replaced as soon as possible.

He said water disposal from Chungi No 9 was a major issue. “Poor sewerage in this area is causing pollution,” he said.

He said waste disposal in this area had also affected localities near Humayun Road and Kutchery Road.

Bajwa said the waste disposal site from Chungi No 9 should be moved to the Northern Bypass.

“At the northern bypass, the WASA has 48 Kanals land where 25 to 30 foot-deep sewerage lines can be installed,” he said.

He was talking to Governor Rafiq Rajwana at a meeting.

Multan Development Authority (MDA) Director Ahmad Shahryar said the Multan Waste Management Company had improved cleanliness in the city.

He said 100 to 200 tons solid waste would be collected from Shujaabad after approval from the DCO. He said Qadir Pur Ranwan could be included in the project.

The governor said a concrete plan would be formulated to resolve the sewerage problems of the city. He said the chief minister would be informed about the problem. He said the solid waste management system should be upgraded.
