KARACHI:

Disciplining charged parking in the city was included in the top priorities of Karachi Division Traffic Management Board (KDTMB) at a meeting chaired by commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui on Wednesday.

The decision was taken considering the traffic gridlocks in different parts of Karachi due to haphazard parking, encroachments, dumping of building wastage and potholes in many of the thoroughfares.

KDTMB divisional board said that the charged parking scheme, initiated by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and the traffic police, had failed miserably in achieving its objective.

It was decided that all relevant agencies will cooperate with each other and measures will immediately be adopted on MA Jinnah Road, Sharae Faisal and Abdullah Haroon Road.

City commissioner and KDTMB chairperson have ordered to ensure land markings, zebra crossings and stop lanes on all roundabouts and intersections on all three major roads, along with proper display of traffic signs to facilitate the motorists and pedestrians.
