Three killed, two injured in Lahore bank shooting

Initial reports suggest gunman opened fire inside the bank over a personal dispute with the bank manager

LAHORE: At least three people were killed and two others injured when a man opened fire inside a local bank in Lahore’s Iqbal town area on Thursday. 

Police said the bank operation manager, a security guard and a passerby were killed in the shooting.

According to initial reports, robbery was not the motive behind the incident rather the alleged culprit, identified as Abdullah, a cashier at the Government Science College, Lahore had some personal dispute with the bank manger.

However, Abdullah who later tried to escape from the scene was caught by another guard of a nearby bank and was handed over to the police.

Suspect dies

Meanwhile, reports suggest Abdullah who had been shot by one of the guards while fleeing the scene has succumbed to his injuries.

Earlier this year, six armed men robbed Rs4.5 million in one of the biggest bank heists of the capital that too near a police station in Koral on the outskirts of the city. The robbers entered the bank in a busy market in the Khanna Pul area at 10am and made the staff and customers hostage for 20 minutes.
