KARACHI: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) demolished two more illegal marriage lawns on Saturday in an on-going operation against encroachment. Both the wedding lawns, Bagh Saman marriage lawn in Gulberg and NED Marriage Hall in Azizabad, were constructed on lands allocated for welfare purposes and were being used commercially.
KMC spokesperson Bashir Ahmed Sadozai said that the city administration has decided to tear down all the marriage halls built on welfare lands. He added that all such constructions were being dismantled phase-wise and a list of illegal marriage halls to be taken down has been prepared. He warned the owners of such marriage halls to destroy them on their own, or else bear the consequences. Information minister Sharjeel Memon, who was present when the halls were demolished, said that the encroachments on government land, amenity plots, playgrounds and parks will not be tolerated and action will be taken against those found involved. He visited Ancholi, Federal B Area Block 9 and Mukka Chowk in Azizabad on Saturday.
