The first meeting of Karachi Division Traffic Management Board was held at the Commissioner's Office on Friday. The board formed under the directives of the chief minister is chaired by Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui.
The board is authorised to ensure the removal of all encroachments and hindrances affecting traffic flow and get relevant departments to undertake proper and regular repair of all thoroughfares besides curtailment of mismanaged charged parking zones, said Siddiqui. The board will particularly ensure quashment of all unauthorized parking lots (charged or otherwise) in Karachi, he added.
There is an urgent need to turn the traffic police into an exemplary department through induction of educated youth, mainly graduates from local colleges and universities, he said.
Siddiqui said the government was conscious of the financial requirements of the traffic police department and is committed to meet these accordingly.
