KARACHI:

The Security Division of the Sindh Police has established a Special Crowd Management Unit (CMU) to enhance public safety and ensure an effective response to law and order situations in urban areas of the province.

The unit has been set up on the directives of IGP Javed Alam Odho and is being supervised by DIG Security Dr Maqsood Ahmed. The CMU, according to officials, aims to ensure a rapid and professional response to riots, public gatherings and emergency situations, while improving overall law and order management in the metropolis.

The unit comprises around 700 trained personnel equipped with modern gear, drawn from various wings of the Security Division, including the Special Security Unit (SSU), Security-I, Security-II, Court Police, Madadgar-15 and Foreigners Security.

Officials said the integration of these units would enable the CMU to adopt a coordinated and disciplined approach to handle large-scale events, unrest and potential disturbances more effectively.

They added that the primary responsibility of the unit would be to ensure public safety, protect public and private property and maintain law and order through modern operational strategies. Addressing the personnel, DIG Security Dr Maqsood Ahmed stressed the importance of discipline, professionalism and swift response in maintaining peace.
