KARACHI:

The top officials of the Sindh Forest Department have illegally appointed at least 25 persons in two districts in the last two months without informing the minister and secretary.

During the cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Sindh wildlife and forest minister Giyan Chand Israni complained to provincial chief minister Qaim Ali Shah that some officials in the department have exceeded their powers by appointing officials from grade one to grade 12 in the last two months.

Sources informed The Express Tribune that chief conservator Mir Nadir Ali Talpur, Hyderabad circle forest research conservator Habibullah Nizamani and Hyderabad circle conservator Zulfiqar Memon were involved in making the illegal appointments. Israni was informed about these appointments through the medical superintendents, they added.

“It is possible that these officials have illegally appointed more people in other districts,” said an official of the forest department, adding that 25 people had been appointed only in Hyderabad and Sukkur.

According to a source, the chief minister has ordered an inquiry into the matter and asked the relevant authorities to take action against the officials involved in making the appointments.
