RAWALPINDI:
More than 1,000 sub-inspectors (SIs) of the Punjab Police have been waiting for promotions for the last seven years.

“These sub-inspectors were supposed to be promoted to the rank of inspectors as per rules and regulations but they have been deprived of their due rights,” said a senior police officer while requesting anonymity.

He explained that the delay in promotions have sent a sense of deprivation and demotivation among the police officials, who, according to him, were considered to be the backbone of the police force.

He said the SIs have completed requisite professional trainings to be promoted to the rank of inspectors.

Another police officer said most of the officers now have only two to six months to retire from service without getting promotions.

He said a large number of senior sub-inspectors have already retired in the same rank even after completing courses and trainings pre-requisite for promotion to the next rank.

The police officer said hundreds of posts of inspectors have been lying vacant in the Punjab police department and promotions were urgently needed to fill them.
