Talking to newsmen, Khan said representatives of the Christian community had asked for 1.5 kanals for the church. “We decided to build the church over three canals in anticipation of future needs,” he said.
National Assembly Member Haji Akram Ansari and former MPA Khawaja Islam were also present.
Khan said a committee had been formed to oversee the construction of the church.
Talking to newsmen, Ansari said the government was taking steps to safeguard rights of religious minorities in the country. “The government wants to provide them job opportunities and uplift their living standards,” he said.
He said members of minority communities had rendered immense sacrifices for the country. “Their efforts should not be forgotten,” he said.
MPA Khawaja Islam said he would help raise funds for the church. He said a school for Christian children would be set up at the UAF by the provincial government.
