In a unanimously passed resolution on Friday, the Punjab Assembly demanded a treason trial against Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain if the veracity of the BBC report about the Karachi-based party accepting funds from India is established.
The resolution, moved by the opposition, said allegations against the MQM of abetting terrorism and receiving training and funds from India’s Research and Analysis Wing had been made previously.
The resolution demanded the federal government form a high-level inquiry panel to look into the matter. “And if the allegations are found to be true, [the MQM chief] Altaf Hussain and his aides should be tried under Article 6 of the Constitution,” it stated.
