LAHORE: The provincial government has assigned the Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) a project to remove sewer inlets from the Lahore Canal.

The idea is to keep the canal clean. The government has allocated Rs332 million for the project. Under the project, sewer lines will be laid parallel on both sides of the canal and all sewerage connections from factories and housing colonies will be connected to the new sewerage system.

The Wasa will also install disposal stations to dispose of the sewerage water to adjoining drains. Construction on the project has begun after detailed survey of affected areas where sewer inlets were pumping contaminated water in canal.

The project will be completed with funds from the Punjab government.
