Harry Potter is set to make his debut on the London stage in 2016.

JK Rowling, author of the much loved Harry Potter series has a treat for all her fans.

Today on the anniversary of Harry Potter, the author disclosed on Twitter that Harry Potter is set to make his debut on the London stage next year in a new play called the Cursed Child.

Fans have been curious as to why Cursed Child has not been made into a novel, to which Rowling responded:

The play will be a collaboration between herself and writer Jack Thorne and director John Tiffany.

Jack Thorne is a brilliant writer, responsible for the most heart-breaking scenes in Skins. John Tiffany is the director of Once, which makes us sure this play will be an awesome theatrical treat.

The play will be produced by Sonia Friedman Productions, Colin Callender's Playground Entertainment and Harry Potter Theatrical Productions.

Fans already knew about the play because the author had announced the news three years ago via Facebook.

Harry Potter novels have sold more than 450 million copies around the world, and spawned an eight-part film franchise that grossed more than $7 billion at the worldwide box office.
