Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Sunday inaugurated rehabilitation and widening work on three of the most bustling roads in Rawalpindi.

The work on Airport Road, High Court Road and Adiala Road will be completed in a year and at a cost of Rs1.1 billion, said a press release.

The minister opened the work with a flag hoisting ceremony and a briefing on the project.

Airport Road will be rehabilitated from Nur Khan Airbase to Koral Chowk — approximately 4.5 kilometres — at a cost of Rs502 million. Another Rs310 million will be spent on 4.3 kilometres-long High Court Road, from the GT Road to Car Chowk in Gulraiz.

Over Rs280 million will be spent to rehabilitate the 5.3 kilometre Adiala Road, from Punjab Housing Foundation to Gorakhpur.

“The project was approved and started after special efforts by the interior minister and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif,” said the press release.
