Prices of chicken have registered a sharp increase in Islamabad and Rawalpindi ahead of Ramazan. The price has been hiked to 200 and above in many localities. The commodity was selling at Rs160 a few days ago.
People have urged the authorities to notify the prices and ensure their implementation. Imran Ahmad, an employee at a private office, said that the demand for chicken had increased due to wedding season before Ramazan and subsequently the prices shot up. “The authorities should chalk out a mechanism to check prices of kitchen items especially during Ramazan,” said Sadia Sajjad, a house wife.
A representative of the poultry association said costly feed and rise in petroleum prices were the reasons behind the price hike.
