Mega project a go: Work to start soon on Bab-e-Peshawar
CM Pervez Khattak will attend ground-breaking ceremony on June 17
Construction of the Bab-e-Peshawar flyover on Hayatabad-Jamrud Road will begin this week and Chief Minister Pervez Khattak will formally lay the foundation stone of the project on June 17.
According to a handout issued on Sunday, Minister for Mineral Development and Focal Person of Mega Projects Ziaullah Afridi chaired a meeting at the Local Government Secretariat in Peshawar to discuss arrangements for the ground-breaking ceremony.
LG Secretary Jamil Ahmad, officials of the National Logistics Cell (NLC), Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) and other relevant officials attended the meeting. The progress of various ongoing development schemes was also reviewed while plans for more mega projects were also proposed.
Afridi was informed that the LG department had awarded the contract for Bab-e-Peshawar to NLC and an agreement to this effect has been signed between NLC and PDA.
“NLC will construct this high-rise two-level flyover complex in a record period of 120 days at the cost of Rs1.77 billion,” stated the handout. The minister directed the NLC to ensure timely completion of the project.
The importance of such communication links has increased manifold in the wake of recent developments in the region, especially for maintaining economic relations with China, Afghanistan and Central Asian states, the handout quoted the minister as saying.
This modern flyover at the confluence of Fata, Hayatabad, Karkhano Market, Industrial Estate and Regi Lalma Township would greatly contribute in removing traffic congestion on this busy highway and would also help in accelerating industrial, commercial and economic activities, said Afridi.
The minister expressed hope that the agreement between the government and NLC would prove to be a starting point of prolonged partnership in the construction of more mega projects in the province.
