FAISALABAD:
A death row prisoner was hanged at Faisalabad District Jail early Thursday morning, Express News reported.
Shahid Shafeeq was handed death sentence for murdering his aunt in 2001, and according to reports the execution took place amid high security and unauthorised persons were not given access to the prison during the hanging.

Earlier on Wednesday Aftab Bahadur Masih was executed in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail despite requests from rights groups and church leaders to halt the execution.
Masih’s lawyers said he was tortured into confessing to murder, in a case that has prompted concern among rights groups and the United Nations.

Aftab Bahadur was sentenced to death for killing three people in 1992 and human rights group Reprieve said two witnesses who said Bahadur was implicated under torture.
Further, after a six-year moratorium on the death penalty was lifted by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in December 2014, more than 150 convicts on death row have been hanged.
