Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has approved the construction of two-feet-wide paved and four-feet-wide unpaved shoulders on all road works planned under the Khadim-e-Punjab Rural Roads Programme.
Addressing a meeting on Sunday, Sharif said with the construction of 12-feet carpeted roads, the time required to transport farm products to nearby markets could be reduced significantly.
Earlier, the communication and works secretary briefed the chief minister on progress in the project.
He said Rs150 billion would be spent under the project to rehabilitate all farm to market roads in the province over the course of three years. Of this amount, Rs15 billion would be spent in the next fiscal year.
He said the project would enable the government to raise living standards in rural and far-off areas of the province.
