UN Workshop: Desertification programmes discussed

KHAIRPUR: A one-day consultative workshop on “Implementation of United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in Pakistan” was organised by the Ministry of Environment in collaboration with the Centre for Bio-diversity and Conservation at Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur on Saturday.

Deputy Inspector General Forest Dr Shahzad Jahangir presided over the workshop. The speakers laid emphasis on combating desertification.

They spoke on the implementation of a national action programme.

As one of its obligations, the ministry under the UNCCD gives reports on implementation every three years.

A new web-based procedure has been followed by member countries to report online to the secretariat.

Dr Mohammad Arshad of Islamia University, Bahalwalpur and Ali Akbar of the Association of Water, Applied Education and Renewable Energy in Umerkot and others spoke.
