KARACHI:

The city's roads continue to claim lives at an alarming pace, with five people, including two brothers from an impoverished family, killed, pushing death toll to 100 so far this year.

The latest spate of deadly crashes involved a trailer, a cement mixer, and unidentified vehicles, whose drivers fled the scene, once again highlighting the dangers posed by heavy vehicles and weak traffic enforcement in the metropolis.

A trailer ran over a donkey cart on the Site Super Highway, killing two brothers-24-year-old Tariq and 14-year-old Zameer-while critically injuring their 17-year-old brother, Hakeem.

In another accident near Ibrahim Hyderi Bridge at Korangi Crossing, a cement mixer rammed into a motorcycle, leaving two riders critically injured. The injured were identified as Muhammad Ibrahim, 35, and Adnan, 30, an executive event management employee at a private TV channel. The driver escaped, while police impounded the cement mixer.
