Four security personnel killed in North Waziristan IED blast

Security personnel were on routine patrolling in the area today when the explosives went off

NORTH WAZIRISTAN: At least four security personnel were killed and two others injured on Saturday when their convoy was targeted by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Datta Khel area of North Waziristan.

According to officials, the personnel were on routine search operation and detecting any leftover IEDs in Khair Warsak Tehsil Ghulam Khan. A landmine, while being defused, went off leaving four personnel killed and destroying their vehicle completely.

Those killed were identified as soldier Asif, Naik Azanfar, Frontier Corps Naik Gul Khan and Lance Naik Asif.

The injured, namely Amir and Nimat, as well as the dead bodies were airlifted to Combined Military Hospital in Bannu.

Following the incident, security forces cordoned off the area and began a search operation.

As per the ongoing operations Zarb-e-Azb and Khyber-I search operations are carried out frequently in attempts to eradicate terrorism from the country.

On April 30, five months into the military operation in the troubled spots of the Khyber tribal region, the military claimed a ‘huge success’ after ‘intense fighting’ that left 27 terrorists dead.

The Khyber-II operation was launched in mid-October last year following reports that some militants had fled the ongoing military offensive in North Waziristan Agency to seek shelter in the strategic Tirah Valley of Khyber Agency.
