KARACHI: Pakistan batting legend Javed Miandad accused the International Cricket Council (ICC) of meddling in country’s cricket affairs saying that the body has done nothing in the favor of the Asian team, Press Trust of India reported.

"The ICC is trying to meddle in the affairs of Pakistan cricket with no positive result,” said Miandad, while talking to a Pakistan-based website.

“They have absolutely no idea about what is good for Pakistan cricket or who, for that matter, is running cricket in our country and how effective that management is.”

Former captain said ICC’s vision of having a democratic system in Pakistan cricket was misplaced.

"We have had a system in place for forty years or so. We were producing world beating cricketers and teams. Now the ICC are more interested in systems of government but do they know that in Pakistan we buy and sell votes? How will the ICC account for that? All they have are just empty slogans which do not help us at all," said Miandad.

"Now, with ICC's insistence, we have a system where the chairman isn't worried about being ousted and neither do his cronies. No one can remove this person and he is answerable to no one. So what have we gained?"

Miandad also criticized the ICC for not doing a great job in running the game.

"They spend more time and money in useless ventures such as the Anit-Corruption and Security Unit. Millions were spent on running it but where is it now? The ICC and its employees are living off the money contributed by its members so they really are not worried about doing anything too different."

The Sharjah hero also insisted that instead of placing a reputable cricketer at the helm, "we have some unknown people running the show".

Miandad concluded that that Pakistan does not even have a players' association and the ICC has no opinion on that.

"The PCB should have been run by former cricketers and not journalists or diplomats and the ICC should have insisted on this point, rather than coming out with empty slogans about democracy which have done nothing to improve the game in Pakistan," concluded Miandad.

Umer | 9 years ago | Reply The PCB, due to the 2009 shootings are a min. of 10 years behind the BCCI who are ruling cricket at the moment, e.g. IPL. Speaking about the ICC isn't necessarily about getting emotional or attacking the Council's views. Sit with them and understand the issues and deal with them diplomatically. This is the exact reason why a Pakistani is not in any senior role within the ICC. Great we host a series against Zimbabwe, sure questions will be asked why Tests cannot return to Pakistan, but shouldn't we resolve the internal problems before attacking the holding Council that represents Global cricket? It only takes 1 bomb to go off near the Stadium, and we are all back to square one, and the laughing stock of hosting cricket, like we have been in the past 6 years.
