KARACHI:

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) granted protective bail to former home minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza in yet another case of rioting during his appearance in Karachi.

Sindh High Court’s Justice Farooq Shah granted the estranged leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party bail against a sum of Rs100,000 till May 17 to surrender before the trial court. Mirza, who is already facing criminal charges for violence in the Badin district, was booked on charges of rioting and assaulting public servants to hinder them from discharging their duties. Aram Bagh SHO Alam Dahiri had lodged an FIR No. 191/2015 under sections 146, 147, 186 and 353 of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Aram Bagh police station.

The complainant alleged that Mirza had forcibly climbed on an armoured personnel carrier belonging to the police, from where he delivered a speech and allegedly threatened police officers during his appearance before the ATC.
