At least five people were injured during a clash between two groups over getting a connection in the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board's (KWSB) main water pipeline in New Karachi.
An exchange of fire took place between the people of the Abro and Brohi communities as a fight ensued over getting the connection in Bashir Chowk neighbourhood in New Karachi Industrial Area. The injured were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment under police custody. Meanwhile, angry people set fire to three motorcycles in the area.
Following the clash, an extra contingent of police reached the site and brought the situation under control. "Both communities live in the area," DSP Irshad Bhutto told The Express Tribune. "Some people of the Abro community are also involved in drug-peddling. However, the clash had nothing to do with drugs."
According to the officer, a man belonging to the Brohi community, Musafir, was beaten up by members of the Abro community on Monday while he was getting a connection from the KWSB's main water pipeline. A similar clash occurred on Tuesday as a member of the Abro community attempted to get a connection.
"The injured belonged to both the communities and we have arrested them," said Bhutto.
