PESHAWAR:
Markazi Tanzeem-e-Tajiran Rabta Committee protested against the Cantonment Board Peshawar (CBP) outside Peshawar Press Club on Monday.
Protesters rejected the recently-levied property tax and warned to go on a hunger strike if the decision is not retracted. Led by committee president Mujeebur Rehman, the demonstrators carried placards and banners inscribed with their demands, chanted slogans against board administration and burned an effigy meant to represent the CBP CEO.
Flanked by office-bearers Shaukatullah Hamdard, Muhammad Akhtar and others, Rehman said CEO Saleem Hassan Wattoo should be tried in a military court for raising taxes. Rehman also demanded the sacking of magistrate Fayyaz Khan and Superintendent Khadim Hussain.
