Suo motu case: Apex court takes notice of drag race accident

Apex court issues notices to IG Punjab and deputy commissioner, Rawalpindi, to appear before the court on Dec 13.



The Supreme Court on Friday took suo motu action on a car racing accident which occurred in Rawalpindi in which five people, including three children, were killed late last week.

The apex court issued notices to inspector-general Punjab and deputy commissioner, Rawalpindi, to appear before the court on Dec 13 along with preliminary investigation report.

According to the press note issued after the suo motu action, one of the racers could not control his car and hit spectators, resulting in the death of five persons of three families.


The car’s driver ran away. Furthermore, an 11-year-old boy named Asfandyar had written an essay in his English paper on the subject of ‘The Accident’ just two days before his death.

The said essay becomes the real story of his death as he died while watching a drag race along with his family.

The chief justice passed the following order: “Stately, loss has been caused to the lives of five persons, including a teenager child who along with his family members was present at the site and apparently so far no legal action has been initiated against the responsible persons thus above note be treated as petition under Article 184 (3) of the Constitution and fix it in court on Dec 13.
