The Supreme Court on Friday took suo motu action on a car racing accident which occurred in Rawalpindi in which five people, including three children, were killed late last week.

The apex court issued notices to inspector-general Punjab and deputy commissioner, Rawalpindi, to appear before the court on Dec 13 along with preliminary investigation report.

According to the press note issued after the suo motu action, one of the racers could not control his car and hit spectators, resulting in the death of five persons of three families.

The car’s driver ran away. Furthermore, an 11-year-old boy named Asfandyar had written an essay in his English paper on the subject of ‘The Accident’ just two days before his death.

The said essay becomes the real story of his death as he died while watching a drag race along with his family.

The chief justice passed the following order: “Stately, loss has been caused to the lives of five persons, including a teenager child who along with his family members was present at the site and apparently so far no legal action has been initiated against the responsible persons thus above note be treated as petition under Article 184 (3) of the Constitution and fix it in court on Dec 13.

Khalid | 13 years ago | Reply Dear All, I have sympothies with the families whose loved ones died in this accident, but I should clear onething that people who came to see the event were invitees only. NO pedestrian/outsider was there. If you guys blame driver then I would blame people too who came to see the event, they should have sit home and enjoy sunday with family rather then out watching car race show. Secondly, there was seating arrangements for spectators. Who asked them to leave their seats and enjoy show by standing on road side foot paths? Management kept on announcing to stand behind the dig (where this car hit and stopped) but who listens... when people get hyper and enthusiastic to watch such kind of events. There were more than 200 security guards, ambulance, fire brigade, police, everything to cover all safety measures. This all was arranged to make this event successfull but unfortunately that resulted in a tragic day. Lastly, if you all say that nothing happens in West.. I accept that safety measures are more followed there because those countries are in this sports since last many years and even Govts. have given them tracks, but in Pak, Govt. doesn't support, no track, nothing. Just to clear myself, I would ask you to visit youtube and see what kind of accidents do occur in West on legal tracks. Having said all that, It was just a matter of time and i would call it an ACCIDENT NOT A TARGET KILLING. May the souls of people died rest in peace and Allah bless us all, ameen!
Ali Haider | 13 years ago | Reply If the SC has to take suo motu action on everything why don't we just fire all the police? What is the police there for if they can not protect the public. I do not understand why these police mafia are never taken to task. The IG punjab should be fired. Until we take strict actions against the police they are not do their job properly.
