Airport police station head constable allegedly patronised contraband peddlers

SUKKUR: Following a death due to the consumption of contraband liquor on Tuesday, the head constable of the Airport police station was fired on Wednesday.

Taking notice of the death, Sukkur SSP Tanveer Hussain Tunio removed the head constable of the Airport police station, Afroze Shahani, from service, allegedly due to his patronage of bootleggers. Tunio also suspended SHO Mithal Khakrani. An FIR under section 302 has been lodged against them as well.

A large number of policemen, led by Tunio and Special Branch Sukkur SP Mansoor Mughal, raided different villages, including Ali Khan Khoso, Nihal Khan Khoso and Abdullah Khan Khoso, recovering 10,000 litres of illegal liquor while arresting 15 people.

The deceased man was identified as Mazhar Memon of Bachal Shah Miani, while Bilawal Bhutto of Shamsabad and Rasheed Mirani of Bachal Shah Miani are under treatment at the hospital. The SSP has warned that any negligence over the sale of contraband liquor will not be tolerated.
