City SHO Saifullah Korai said that the boy, a resident of Taheemabad near Khanpur, had been raped by a prayer leader on Monday. “He assaulted the boy when he went to the mosque to study. He had then fled,” he said. The boy was taken to a hospital, where his condition was stated to be out of danger, police said.

Rahim Yar Khan DPO Sohail Zafar Chattha had taken notice of the incident. He had directed the Bahawalpur RPO Ehsan Sadiqand to arrest the accused. A police team was then formed to trace the suspect. The police team, led by Sub Inspector Asif Abbassi, raided a house in Yazman and arrested the suspect.

Meanwhile, another man was arrested on Tuesday for attempting to rape a 12-year-old boy. Police said that the accused, a resident of Scarp Colony, Khanpur, allegedly assaulted the boy in his house. “The boy raised alarm and neighbours gathered outside the house. They apprehended the suspect when he tried to flee from the house,” police said.
