LAHORE:

A petition seeking recovery of three Youhanabad residents allegedly arrested by the police over violent riots in the area following suicide blasts at two churches was disposed of on Monday after a prosecution department lawyer told the Lahore High Court that none of the three men was in police custody.

Petitioner MA Joseph was directed to take his complaint against the police to the departmental authorities.

The prosecution lawyer earlier told the court that one of the men named in the petition, Pervez Jan, was taken into custody for investigation but he had later escaped.

He said police teams were conducting raids for his arrest.

He said the other two men, identified as Kamran and Shalam, were not taken into custody.

The lawyer also submitted the report of a joint investigation team formed to probe the incident.
