ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) intends to propose establishment of SAARC anti-corruption network for collaborative efforts to eradicate corruption, NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry said on Monday. “Corruption is one of the main hurdles in rapid growth and progress,” he said talking to a delegation of United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) led by its Regional Representative for Afghanistan Andrey Avestisyan. Corruption has a wide range of corrosive effects on societies. It undermines development and rule of law and is a breeding ground for organised crimes in the society, perpetuates inefficiencies in the system and therefore spearheads regress, the chief of anti-corruption body said. He said NAB is pursuing its Awareness and Prevention Campaign across the country. Avestisyan appreciated efforts of NAB for corruption control in Pakistan. He said UNODC gives priority to its collaboration with NAB.
