An uphill battle: NTUF seeks recognition of labourers
The Sindh Peasants and Labourers Conference called for the recognition of home-based female workers
HYDERABAD:
The Sindh Peasants and Labourers Conference called for the recognition of home-based female workers and an end to the privatisation of state-owned industries. The event, organised by the National Trade Union Federation of Pakistan (NTUF) in Hyderabad on Sunday, also highlighted the need to spread awareness in the workforce about the Sindh Industrial Relations Act of 2013, which allows farmers and fishermen to form trade unions. “We will surround the Sindh Assembly in protest if they do not pass a law that gives the status of labourers to home-based women workers,” said NTUF president Rafique Baloch, adding that a draft bill had been submitted to the Sindh chief minister, who assured them that a summary for legislation would be moved to the law ministry.
