LAHORE:

Prisons IG Mian Farooq Nazeer said on Sunday that senior police officials had been directed to ensure that all water coolers and ceiling fans in barracks remained operational throughout the summer.

He was speaking to APP. Nazeer said senior officials had also been instructed to ensure the provision of cold drinking water at barracks.

He said officials had been instructed to ensure availability of water at restrooms attached with barracks. Nazeer said strict cleanliness standards should be maintained in barracks.

He said special attention should be paid to kitchen and hospital standards on this account.

Nazeer said only quality food should be provided to inmates in accordance with the jail manual.

Jail superintendents must personally check the quality of food being offered to inmates, he added.

Nazeer said officials would be held accountable for any security lapse at prison facilities. He said security had been beefed up at 32 jails due to security concerns. Nazeer said sensitive locations were being patrolled around-the-clock by armed contingents.

He said the security network had been formulated on modern lines. Nazeer said CCTV cameras and jammers had been installed at jails to prevent the entry of contraband items in the premises.
