KARACHI:
Esteemed fashion designer and the creative backbone behind Fashion Pakistan Week, Deepak Perwani will be experimenting with the en vogue fabric again this year. Following the existing trend of Pakistani fashion designers leaning towards crafting lawn prints, Perwani is partnering up with Zeniya Lawn this time around, to assemble his collection.

Talking about his latest venture, the designer says, “It’s been a fantastic experience. This is where you learn all the basics of designing — from costing and printing to embroidery and mass production.”

Being a lawn connoisseur for awhile now, the designer was earlier teamed with Orient Textile Mills. Talking about his switch to Zeniya Lawn, he says, “Orient was a great experience and they were fabulous people to work with. Zeniya, on the other hand, is family and it’s a young brand which needs to expand into retail. I have a vision in mind for them.”

Zeniya Lawn will meet the design aesthetics and taste of the designer by utilising Ikat dye techniques and fine phulkari embroidery in the exclusive collection. The anthology will boast brighter hues, geometric patterns and diverse motifs especially incorporated into the summer collection.

Elaborating on what will set his lawn collection apart from the rest of the designer lawns being offered, he asserts, “What gives my collection the edge is fantastic design, great prices and of course, the casual feel that Deepak Perwani lawn offers. The simplicity and lack of excessive embroidery makes it an everyday wear collection.”

Citing it to be a hit not only in Karachi and Lahore, the designer is confident it will be well received “all across Pakistan,” the designer says. When asked about his designing preferences — from bridals and Prêt to lawn, he says he will be sticking to all of them. “So far, I would stick to all. As a designer and as a representative of a design house that is recognised internationally and locally, we are probably the only ones that excel at designing so many diverse lines,” remarks Perwani.

His latest collaborative lawn venture will soon be releasing in Karachi, followed by Lahore.
