Sky-rocketing invoice: Punjab govt to address farmers’ woes
Govt assured the farmers that their issues will be resolved regarding electricity bills of tube-wells
ISLAMABAD:
Punjab Government Spokesman Syed Zaeem Hussain Qadri Monday assured the farmers that their issues will be resolved regarding electricity bills of tube-wells and extend further facilities to uplift the agriculture sector in the province. He said that the issue was taken up after the government withdrew the subsidy being given on electricity provided for tube-wells. Qadri added that the issue was directly linked with agricultural development which was the backbone of the country’s economy, terming it a major source in increasing the gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate. The provincial government, he said, was working out a formula to resolve the issue amicably besides providing more facilities to farmers. Meanwhile, Pakistan Kissan Chairman Ittehad Chaudhry Anwar said farmers were regularly paying electricity bills and adding arrears in monthly bills was unjustified. He said it was the issue of ‘overbilling’ and farmers were ready to resolve it through dialogue.
