IHC sets aside Musharraf's arrest warrant after assurance of him appearing in court

District court had issued warrant in Lal Masjid cleric's murder case after Musharraf failed to attend hearings

QUETTA/ ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court on Wednesday set aside the non-bailable arrest warrant issued against former military ruler Pervez Musharraf after his counsel assured his client will attend the next hearing, Express News reported on Wednesday. 

A district and sessions court had issued the arrest warrant against Musharraf in Lal Masjid's Ghazi Abdul Rashid murder case. The former military ruler was booked in the case on September 2, 2013.

A hearing, headed by Justice Noorul Haq Qureshi, was held today during which Musharraf's lawyer said the former military ruler will appear before court in the next hearing.

The counsel said Musharraf was waiting for his medical board's clearance before he can start attending hearings.

Adjourning the hearing till April 27, the court ordered Musharraf to appear in person.

Bugti murder case

Musharraf's medical report was presented in an anti terrorism court hearing the Bugti murder case in Quetta.

Nawab Akbar Bugti was assassinated along with over 35 of his comrades during a military operation in the mountainous areas of Bugti Tribal Territory and Kohlu on August 26, 2006. Musharraf, who was president at the time, had directed the military operation.

DG Health Balochistan submitted the report which will determine whether the former military ruler is fit enough to appear before the court for hearings.

The hearing was adjourned until April 22.
