Fighting the virus: Polio drive comes to an end

It was decided to relaunch a campaign next week in UCs where children could not be vaccinated

KARACHI: A week-long polio vaccination campaign in eight sensitive union councils (UCs) of the city came to an end on Tuesday. The teams claim to have achieved 88 per cent of the target, which was to inoculate 238,506 children. The campaign, supervised by Karachi commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, was launched on the directives of Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah on March 31. A meeting chaired by Siddiqui was informed that health camps were also set up in the UCs, namely Muzaffarabad, Muslimabad, Gujro, Songal, Manghopir, Ittehad Town, Chishti Nagar and Islamia Colony. It was decided to relaunch a campaign next week in UCs where children could not be vaccinated.
