Road use regulations: Pedestrians not a priority

Lack of zebra crossings on major roads and highways has multiplied road accidents in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
Pedestrians at busy intersections find it hard to cross the road in absence of zebra crossings. According to a survey, the zebra crossing signs were painted on every road at the time of construction but have been wiped out with the passage of time.
Pedestrians have complained that the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has not painted the crossings at several busy intersections and that they are left at the mercy of motorists. On some roads, the crossings are painted at places far from the bus stops and pedestrians have to cross the roads making a sprint.
Besides, no awareness campaign has ever been launched by the traffic police or the civic agency to educate the drivers about the rights of pedestrians.
