DCO ordered the concerned officers to remove garish signboards from The Mall within seven days.

SUKKUR:

Five people, including three children of a family, were killed on Thursday after a signboard fell on them during a windstorm in Garhi Yasin, Shikarpur.

A family from the Chatto Mangi village was waiting at a bus stop to take a ride to Golo Daro to attend a wedding reception when strong winds started blowing followed by a torrential downpour. The family took shelter under the hoarding, which came crashing down after two electric poles fell on it.

The falling billboard took the lives of 17-year-old Sohrab Shah, his six-year-old niece Hina Bibi and his nephews, seven-year-old Babar Shah and four-year-old Zakir Shah. Another unrelated man Ahmed Mekho was also killed on the spot. The mother of the three children, Imam Khatoon, was also injured.

The victims were shifted to the Garhi Yasin taluka hospital. After the windstorm, heavy rains in Jacobabad and Shikarpur submerged low-lying areas within minutes.
