Hamza Ali Abbasi resigns as PTI Culture Secretary after release of new film's trailer

Hamza Ali's resigns from PTI based on moral grounds.

Hamza Ali Abbasi has announced his decision to resign as Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s (PTI) Culture Secretary through a Facebook status on Tuesday.

The actor, who has recently been in the news for his provocative statements regarding his co-stars, deemed himself "no more eligible" to represent Pakistani culture in a political party.

Hamza stated that certain "elements" in his upcoming movie went against what he believes in, and this was what had prompted his resignation.

"Since I failed to act on my own beliefs, I deem I am no more eligible to represent Pakistani culture in a political party and hence, I am resigning as Sec. Culture PTI."

Although he did not mention the title of the film in his Facebook status, it's obvious he is talking about Jawani Phir Nahi Aani as his post came the day Jawani Phir Nahi Aani's trailer was released.

A former civil service trainee, Hamza has been an active supporter of PTI and its chairman Imran Khan. He joined the party late last year and was spotted on many of the party’s sit-ins held last year to overthrow the incumbent Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government.

In an earlier Facebook status where he discussed item numbers, Hamza revealed he has romanced "women in bikinis" in an upcoming comedy film.
