RAWALPINDI: As the saga of fake degrees continues, the lawyers’ community has now come under the limelight after revelations that the law degree of Shahbaz Ahmed Rajput, former Joint Secretary of Rawalpindi District Bar Association, was alleged to be fake.

The FIR was lodged at Civil Lines Police Station by the President of Rawalpindi District Bar Association Malik Waheed Anjum against fellow member Shahbaz Ahmed Rajput for not submitting his educational certificates to the Bar Association.

When contacted President Rawalpindi District Bar Association Malik Waheed Anjum told The Express Tribune that on the direction of Punjab bar Council, Rawalpindi District Bar had sent the degrees of all their members to the relevant universities for verification and Rajput advocate was amongst those whose degrees had been sent to Punjab University, but the university refused to give information about his degree.

Later, Rawalpindi District Bar filed a writ petition against him in Lahore, where the court disposed off the case and directed the respondent Shahbaz Ahmed to submit his educational certificate to the Rawalpindi Bar, but he was still reluctant to submit his educational documents.

While giving further details about the details of the case, Anjum said that when Punjab Bar council started an inquiry about his degree, it was found to be fake.

According to him Shahbaz cleared LLB (Part-1) in 1998 with Roll-no 004863 from Punjab University. However, he failed in (Part-2) with roll no-2807, and in the supplementary exam he failed again. When he could not pass his exam he made fake result cards and appeared in (Part-3) but again failed in one subject.

Later through fake migration certificate he transferred his degree from Punjab University to Bahauddin Zakariya University and got his certificate from the university. Then he applied for a license to practice in Lahore and gave a postal address in Lahore. When Punjab Bar Council came to know they took notice and started an inquiry which concluded that it was allegedly a fake degree.

Shahbaz Ahmed Rajput said Punjab Bar Council issued him a certificate on October 14 this year and his bachelor degree of LLB was original. He claimed that Punjab Bar Council through their independent authority verified his degree and issued the certificate.

“I am being politically victimised by the incumbent Bar Association because I played a constructive role during the restoration of judiciary in the country,” he said. He added that he will take legal action against his accusers as soon as possible.
