FAISALABAD: Timely sowing of crops, adoption of best varieties, balanced usage of fertiliser, soil analysis and following the recommendations of agricultural experts are imperative to increase agricultural yield and ensure food security. This was stressed by agriculture experts at the farmers’ convention arranged by the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) as part of the ongoing spring festival. As many as 1,700 farmers participated in the convention. UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan presided over the convention. Addressing the participants, Khan called for applying and promoting the latest practices of agriculture as per recommendation of experts in order to increase productivity. He said that the population was increasing at a quick pace whereas land and natural resources are depleting. Khan added that there was a need to increase per-acre production that will not only ensure food security but also reduce poverty from the country.
