KARACHI: As many as 65 people, a majority of them children, came down with food poisoning and were rushed to hospital in Korangi on Friday. The ‘biryani’ at a valima ceremony is believed to have caused the trouble.

The residents of E Area in Korangi No 5.5 ate stale food, left over from the valima ceremony of Imran Nasir, who lives in the same area.

They were taken to Sindh Government Hospital, Korangi where the medical superintendent Dr Abdul Wahid Rajput told The Express Tribune that the patients started coming from 4:30pm and kept coming for two hours.

Around 40 people were sent home and 20 were admitted, including one dozen children. The children were aged between two to 13 years.

Zaman Town SHO Atif Shah said that the groom Nasir had served stale food to his guests and neighbors on Friday afternoon.  “They are negotiating with each other and there is no need to register a case,” said the SHO. The food supplier was not responsible because at least 200 people attended the valima and did not get sick.
