Louis van Gaal says Manchester United will be his last managing job

Spot in the Champions League will help in getting the calibre of players he wants next season

Loius van Gaal, manager of the English football club Manchester United, has announced that the hot-seat at Old Trafford will be his last as a manager.

The Dutchman said in an interview on Thursday that he has promised his wife to retire. “This is my last job. For sure.”

“I have to pay attention to my kids, my grandchildren but also to my wife. They deserve it. Now I cannot pay that attention. I was not at the birthday of my grandson for example. I don’t like it.”

Van Gaal had signed a three-year contact with United in May last season to take over from interim manager and former player Ryan Giggs.

When asked about United’s future he said that he is confident that the club will finish in the top four and qualify for the Champions League at the end of the season.

Despite the criticism about the tactics and strategies he has employed in his first season in England, he believes that the club is now getting back on its feet after a tough transition from the Sir Alex Ferguson era.

United currently sit fourth in the league, two points behind second placed Manchester City and one point behind Arsenal. Fifth placed Liverpool is just two points behind United.

With nine games in hand, van Gaal hinted that a Champions League spot will play a crucial role in attracting the players he will want next season.
