PFUJ to hold grand car rally

ISLAMABAD:
Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has decided to hold a grand car rally on the eve of Universal Press Freedom Day May 3 2010 to draw attention to the problems of media persons in the country.

The rally seeks to draw attention to how media persons and journalists are facing threats to their lives as no protective measures are being taken either by the government or media owners.

The rally will commence at 11am from PFUJ Secretariat, Islamabad, and culminate in Lahore. Journalist from different unions of journalists and press clubs in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Khyber Union of Journalists, Peshawer Press Club, Tribal Areas Union of Journalists, and from Mardan, Swat, Abbottabad, Manshera, Murree, Attock, Hasanabdal, Fateh Jang, Tala Gang, Chakwal, Texila, Karachi, Hyderabad, Quetta, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan and other cities and towns are expected to take part in this rally.


According to the PFUJ, Press Clubs situated on GT Road i-e Gujar Khan, Sohawa, Dina, Jhelum, Sarai Alamgir, Kharian, Lala Musa, Wazirabad, Gujrat, Muridkay, Sialkot, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujranwala will also participate in this rally.

The Punjab Union of Journalists, with thousands of journalists, media workers would receive the rally at River Ravi Bridge near Lahore. The rally will be led by PFUJ President Pervaiz Shaukat and other leaders of PFUJ, APNEC, National Press Club and Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists.

The PFUJ will start the rally with more than 200 cars. The media will cover the event live. The rally will end at Minar-e-Pakistan Iqbal Park Lahore.

Representatives of political parties, civil society, lawyers, labour unions, representative of High Court and Supreme Court Bar associations will also attend the rally.
