In remembrance: Services of Bhagwandas recalled

Speakers paid tribute to the upright judge for upholding rule of law.

Rights activists and writers at a condolence reference on Sunday paid tributes to Justice Rana Bhagwandas and eulogised his contribution in upholding the rule of law and values of justice in Pakistan.

The event was arranged by Sindh Graduates Association Islamabad branch at Shah Abdul Lateef Community Centre for the judge who passed away on February 23.

Rights activist Tahira Abdullah said that Bhagwandas will be remembered by the people of Pakistan for upholding the rule of law.

“The vacuum created by his departure will be felt for a long time to come,” she remarked.

Abdullah said the judge stood by the values of justice in all the positions he held whether in judiciary or in the Federal Public Service Commission.

The association’s president, Muhammad Yousuf Memon said physical departure of Justice Bhagwandas is meaningless as he was a larger than life judge and his services will always be remembered.

Development expert and writer Naseer Memon said the judge served humanity and rose above from his religious identity.  “Rana Bhagwandas was one of those judges who did justice to the justice”.

Bhagwandas’ brother-in-law Subhash Chander said he was a selfless person who worked to serve Pakistan and a kind family member.

Vice-Chairman of All Pakistan Hindu Rights Council Ashok Chand, Dr Ashok Talwani and others also spoke on the occasion.
