Around 80 per cent of the 807 members of the Sindh High Court Bar Association (SHCBA), Hyderabad chapter, exercised their right of vote on Saturday to elect office-bearers.
According to election committee chairperson advocate Irfan Ahmed Kalhoro, a total of 641 votes were cast by the end of the polling process. The SHCBA’s jurisdiction covers 13 districts of the Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas and Nawabshah divisions.
While there are no panels, candidates are being supported on the basis of their affiliation with outgoing SHCBA president advocate Nisar Durrani and former advocate-general Sindh Yousuf Laghari.
Advocates Ghullamullah Chang and Jagdesh R Mulani are contesting for the post of the president and Muhammad Aslam Bhatti, Mumtaz Alam Laghari and Muhammad Lutfullah Arain for that of the vice-president.
Advocate Ayaz Tunio has already been elected unopposed as the general secretary for the second consecutive term.
