GILGIT:

Police on Friday arrested two men, who allegedly kidnapped and sexually assaulted an 18-year-old girl on March 5 in the Skardu area of Gilgit-Baltistan.

The young woman, an eleventh-grade student, was returning home from a tuition centre, when she was forcibly picked up allegedly by Shakeel Ahmed and Ahmed Hussain, who later took her to a nearby house and sexually assaulted her.

The incident occurred near the chief minister house at Sadpara Road in Skardu, an otherwise peaceful town that has a very low crime rate.

The victim’s father filed an FIR against the suspects.

A police official, Mubarak Jan, said police took swift action soon after registration of a report and launched a search operation. He said both the accused have confessed to their crime.
