On Death Row: SHC disposes Saulat Mirza’s petition

The court was pleaded to put the black warrants on hold till a decision was taken by the apex court

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Friday disposed of a petition filed by death row convict Saulat Mirza’s sister, Sumera Wajahat, challenging the death warrant and advised her to approach the Supreme Court. A division bench, headed by Justice Abdul Rasool Memon, heard the petition filed by Wajahat. She had approached the high court pleading to hold in abeyance the death warrant for her brother’s execution on March 19. The petitioner’s lawyer, Akram Qureshi, told the judges that a court had issued the black warrants on March 11 despite the fact that a criminal miscellaneous application, filed on Mirza’s behalf was is pending with the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The court was pleaded to put the black warrants on hold till a decision was taken by the apex court.
